Services

The major clinical biochemistry analysers, throughout the 4 campuses, have been standardised to the same technology to ensure uniformity of analysis. The tests performed in the department include: renal and liver function tests, diabetes testing – glucose, HbA1C and fructosamine, blood gases, trace metals, nutritional markers, and lipids. In addition, analysis for tumour markers, reproductive and other endocrine hormones, electrophoresis and quantitative proteins, therapeutic and immune suppressive drugs, and toxicological tests are performed. Various dynamic tests are performed under the care of the Chemical Pathologist, such as exercise stress testing. The scientific staff also attends diabetes clinics to provide an immediate analytical service and also attend to patients to perform tests for cystic fibrosis.
