The Cytogenetics Laboratory provides a comprehensive range of conventional and molecular chromosomal tests. Testing is performed on a variety of specimen types in both prenatal (amniotic fluid, chorion biopsy and fetal blood) and postnatal (blood and a wide range of somatic tissues) settings. The laboratory focuses on constitutive, rather than acquired, chromosomal aberrations.
The laboratory participates in the Australasian Society of Cytogeneticists / Human Genetics Society (ASoC/HGSA) Quality Assurance Program.
The laboratory encourages discussion regarding the suitability of testing particularly when choosing between conventional and molecular karyotyping.
